I am renting a server and I am trying to get it connected to the WarRoom. The directions for entering your hostname says:
This should be the actual machine name of your server, i.e. run hostname from the command prompt
Well since I'm renting the server, I can't run any commands from the command prompt.
I'm having a hell of a time getting this thing connected. Any ideas?
Contact your server provider and see if they can get you the host name. Pretty sure that's how you'd do it (I don't rent my own but fairly certain this is how you'd do it).
May as well get them to give you the external IP for the server too while you're at it. You'll need that as well.
You can also just ping the IP, that should tell you the (public) hostname.
In Windows - open a command prompt and type:
ping -a <IP address>
ie: ping -a 8.8.8.8
<IP address> being the IP of your rented server.
The reply will say "Pinging hostname [IP] with 32 bytes of data"
If that doesn't work then you'll need to contact your server provider for that info.
