So Icebreakr released a new map the other day. I also noticed there is a new module in Alive specific to map indexing. I can't find any documentation on it, though; just the old documentation on manually indexing them.
I have two questions:
1. How would one use the map indexer if they needed to? What does it really do and when would one need to use it?
2. Would this new map that still only uses vanilla A2 and A3 structures need to be indexed?
It's not quite ready yet, hence we've not put any documentation out. It works but there's no way for you to actually play the indexed map without us rebuilding ALiVE with the new index included! Tup's just testing a new method which will allow map indices to be included in a mission.pbo and we'll push that out in another release soon.
To answer your second question, yes every map needs indexing - the process determined clusters of building types to turn into Objectives for the AI Commanders.
